In the heart of Puisaye, in the Yonne region of Burgundy, around fifty workers are taking on an extraordinary challenge: building a medieval castle today using the techniques and materials of the Middle Ages.
Whatever perspective is chosen to approach this project, Guédelon meets many of the expectations of 21st-century society. Guédelon is above all a scientific, historical, educational, touristic, and human adventure.

Nestled in a rolling hedgerow landscape, this village has preserved its ceramic tradition since the Middle Ages.
Specialised in pottery since the 14th century and a major pottery centre in the 16th century, Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye benefits from a soil rich in exceptional clay, which vitrifies throughout when fired at high temperatures and becomes frost-resistant.
The Château of Saint-Amand-en-Puisaye is one of the most important Renaissance castles in the Nivernais region.
Donzy
14 km from Les Galants
A true green haven, the Donziais region—hilly and crossed by numerous streams—is a paradise for walkers. It offers more than 15 marked trails for half-day or full-day hikes.
You can enjoy hiking, cycling, or horse riding. You will discover its vast forests rich in diverse tree species, its open plains and hedgerow landscapes, and its charming nestled villages.
The Seven Locks of Rogny
40 km from Les Galants
Rogny-les-Sept-Écluses, gateway to the Puisaye-Forterre region, takes its name from its impressive system of seven locks.
The Briare Canal and its impressive seven-lock system are part of a vast project designed by Henry IV and Sully as early as 1597.
The aim was to connect the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean and the English Channel through a network of canals linking rivers, enabling safer, faster, and more economical transport of goods and people.
